Bum Subdivision is situated within Boyo Division, with its administrative center based in Fonfuka. The subdivision shares borders with Misaje Subdivision to the East, Fungom Subdivision to the South, and Belo and Fundong Subdivisions to the West. To the North, it is bordered by Fundong and Furawa Subdivisions. Geographically, the municipality located between the latitudes of 10° 8“  and 10° 32“ East of Greenwich Meridian, and between longitudes 6° 23“ and 6° 39“ North of the Equator. The Subdivision was created by a presidential decree in 1992 but the first civil administrator, Mr Ntang Ntang Samuel Enow was only appointed in 1996. From 1996 till date, the following have served as administrators in the subdivision.
